Cash Mobs in Tampa Bay

It’s time to give back!

Local Businesses add character to our streets, create more jobs and keep the money local! So now it's time to give back and show them some love! Let's keep the money local!

Back in January 2012 LocalShops1 brought the first Cash Mob to Tampa Bay. Here's how a Cash Mob works:
  • Choose a local independent business.
  • Coordinate meeting time and place, and gather the troops!
  • Everyone meets at the designated time and place, and together the group invades the business.
  • Participants are encouraged to wear red and spend $10 at the business.

LocalShops1 Cash Mob "hits" have included Haslam's Bookstore, St. Petersburg; Craftsman House & Gallery, St. Petersburg;  ARTPool Gallery, St. Petersburg; Kozy Kazual Wears, Gulfport; Uniquely Yours Boutique, St. Petersburg; and Bijou's Boutique, St. Petersburg.

Since starting the Cash Mobs in Tampa Bay, an unexpected -- but much welcomed! -- thing happened. Other organizations and other communities started doing their own cash mobs, helping support even more independent businesses. It's exciting to see so much support for local businesses!

Now it's your turn. We encourage you to gather a group and organize your own cash mob. Even if it's just three or four friends, you might be surprised at the impact you can have for a small business!

Stay up to date on the Buy Local movement and cash mobs throughout the region by joining our Facebook Cash Mob group, or send us an e-mail to to be added to our email list.

Are you organizing a cash mob? Fill out the form below and we'll post it on our Facebook page, if you'd like! and Awake Pinellas are working together to support local businesses.

Here is how it works: We get a group together to "invade" a local business! Each participant is asked, but not required, to spend $10 at the business.

Businesses will be selected based on the nominations received, and will be alerted about 48 hours before the scheduled Ca$h Mob is to show up. There is no cost for the business to participate.
