40+ Businesses Honored at Annual Best in Biz

ST. PETERSBURG, FL -- More than 40 local businesses were honored Sunday Aug. 4 during LocalShops1’s fifth birthday bash and annual Best in Biz contest.





There were four categories – Most Community-Minded, Best in Grassroots Marketing, Best New Business and Best Established Business. Winners were chosen through an online poll, in which more than 1,000 people participated; and by a panel of judges including local journalists and college professors.


And the winners are …

In addition to the business awards, LocalShops1 presented its annual Floppy Hat Award, which goes to a community member who goes above and beyond to support local businesses and the Buy Local movement. This year’s recipient was Susan Robertson, events director of the Birchwood and former marketing director of the St. Pete Pier.

Keynote speaker was Daniel James Scott, of USFSP Entrepreneurship Academy, who was recently named Florida's Small Business Advocate of the Year by the Small Business Administration.


More than 100 people attended LocalShops1's event, held at the Safety Harbor Resort & Spa. Sponsors included Chart 411, Moorman Photographics, Nivlac Solutions, Safety Harbor Resort & Spa and Three Birds Tavern.  The event was featured on Fox 13 and CBS 10 News.
