Running a business isn't easy, and it's even tougher when you don't know the basics. Worse yet, sometimes it's tough to know even just what it is you need to know!

And that's where the St. Petersburg Chamber's Entrepreneurial Academy comes in. Since 1995, the Chamber has been helping new businesses get off the ground by getting them grounded with the basics.

The Academy is a 10 -week course tailored for entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs, focusing on the essentials of owning a business. The classes are taught by business leaders in the community, people who have gone through it all, and have obviously lived to tell. Sessions focus on legal entities, accounting, loan options, marketing, social media, insurance, and Human Resources.

The fall 2012 series takes place 6-9 Monday nights, Sept. 10-Nov. 12, at the Chamber's office in downtown St. Pete.

I'm super-excited to be enrolled in this fall series, and I'm looking forward to learning from the area's best and brightest business people. I'm also excited about meeting the latest crop of entrepreneurs, and seeing what's in store for Tampa Bay. I'l be blogging about my adventures (so NOT looking forward to the accounting session!) and, more importantly, I'll be blogging about my fellow classmates.

If you want to join me, you can sign up for the Entrepreneurial Academy, too. It's $299 for the entire 10-week course, and dinner is even included with each class. For more information, contact Sean Kennedy, the Chamber's Economic Development specialist, at or 727-388-2907
