New vegan flavors in St. Pete

Posted By Robert Sitten, Wednesday, December 13, 2017

Ray’s Vegan Soul in St. Pete’s growing Mirror Lake District adds a vegan option to the city’s robust restaurant scene. The restaurant in the 100 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street N offers selections like quinoa meatloaf, raw tacos and African almond soup, as well as sweet potato pie and classic plum cobbler.

Restaurateur Ray Milton, a boxing instructor and former pastry chef and owner of Sugar Ray’s Bakery in St. Petersburg, started the vegan soul food business as a food truck about two years ago. Now he is "ditching the wheels and going brick and mortar," he writes on his Facebook page.

Initial hours include late-night Fridays from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m., with vegan burgers and such; and for Soul Food Sundays from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a rotating menu that will always include his three most popular items: mac and cheese, raw tacos and African almond soup, According to I Love the Burg, St. Pete Eco Village and Bartlett Park Community Garden help source the restaurant.
