ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- LocalShops1 and Awake Pinellas are
planning their fourth Cash Mob Saturday, April 21. It is the first cash
mob ever organized in Gulfport.
The two community organizations are rounding up the troops and will go
marching together to "invade" a local business -- Participants are
encouraged to WEAR RED and SPEND GREEN (suggested that each one spends
$10, but not required).
Adding a special twist to this Cash Mob, 10 percent of the proceeds will
be given to Rebuild Together Tampa Bay, a nonprofit organization that
rehabs homes in the region.
Where is the Mob going? It's a surprise!
Participants, known as Mobsters, are meeting at 1:45 p.m Saturday, April
21, at the corner of 28th Ave. S. and Beach Blvd. in Gulfport. Those
who can't be there at the designated time are welcome to come anytime
between 2-4 and LocalShops1 and Awake Pinellas representatives will be
on location to direct them to the secret location.
"Cash Mobs help spotlight the importance of shopping locally," says
Ester Venouziou, LocalShops1 founder, "Studies show that ff every dollar
spent at a local business, about 70 cents stays local. Of every dollar
spent at a national corporation, less than 40 cents stays local."
Past Cash Mobs organized by LocalShops1 and Awake Pinellas have taken
place at Haslam's Bookstore, Craftsman House and ARTPool Gallery, all in
St. Petersburg. They are part of a growing movement of mobs sprouting
up in cities all over the nation.
