FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
JULY 14, 2012
ST. PETERSBURG, FLA. -- Thirty local businesses and shoppers have been named finalists in LocalShops1's annual Small Business and Shopper Awards, which will be presented in August in St. Petersburg.
The event, coinciding with LocalShops1's fourth anniversary, spotlights the contributions locally owned businesses make to the community. More than 200 businesses and shoppers were nominated for the awards.
"Cutting the choices down to 30 finalists
(six per category) was not an easy task," said Ester Venouziou, LocalShops1 founder. "We spent days poring over the
entries, checking out the local business nominees' websites and Facebook
pages, and debating amongst ourselves."
The winners will be chosen by an independent panel of judges and the awards will be presented during a banquet celebration 6-9 pm Aug. 8 at the St. Petersburg Museum of History. The event will be catered by Island Flavors And Tings, an award-winning restaurant specializing in Caribbean cuisine.
This year there will also be the People's Choice winners, based on an online poll now under way.
The evening's host will be LocalShops1 Advisory Board member Ebony T. Grimsley, owner of Above Promotions, a publicity, marketing and promotions company in Tampa.
Moorman Photographics in St. Petersburg is the official event photographer.
Event reservations are available through LocalShops1's Event calendar or by calling 727.637.5586. Sponsorship, advertising and other promotional opportunities are also available. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 727.637.5586.
The finalists are:
BEST NEW BUSINESS:
We were looking for businesses that launched in the past five years,
and are already the talk of the town! Businesses that are innovative,
creative and daring. Afterall, these are businesses that launched during
the recession. Most of all, we're looking for living proof that
dedication pays off. Past winner: Three Birds Tavern, St. Petersburg
MOST COMMUNITY-MINDED BUSINESS:
business owners go above and beyond to help local charities and other
local businesses. These are the ones who organize fundraisers, donate to
silent auctions, help tech-challenged neighbors and give shoutouts to
emerging entrepreneurs. Why? Because they care. Past winner: Illuminated Publishing, Lutz
BUSINESS BEST AT GRASSROOTS MARKETING:
There’s no huge advertising budget, but this business doesn’t need
giant billboards to get the message out. Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube,
email marketing, cross-promotions, and good old-fashioned word of mouth
bring in customers. Past winner is Intensity Academy, Lutz
BEST LOCAL SHOPPER
looking for LocalShops1 Girl's BFF, the conscientious shopper who likes
to support his or her neighborhood shops and restaurants. Now, we're
not saying this person NEVER goes to the chains and Big Box stores. But
this Shopper makes an effort to support the Mom & Pops whenever
possible, and loves telling the world about the cool places around. Past winners: Linda Evans of Tampa and Holly Furlong of Clearwater
