ST. PETERBURG, Fla. -- LocalShops1.com and Awake Pinellas are excited to announce the second-ever CASH MOB in Pinellas County will take place Saturday, Jan. 28, in St. Petersburg.
The Cash Mobs are a way to give back to local businesses and to help generate buzz about the importance of shopping locally. Studies show that of every dollar spent at a local business, about 70 cents stays local.
Of every dollar spent at a national corporation, less than 40 cents
"The Cash Mob is a way to put money directly into the community," says Craig Glaser, project manager for Awake Pinellas. "It's a way to support Main Street America."
Here is how the Cash Mob will work: -- Wear RED -- Meet us at 3 pm Saturday, Jan. 28, at the corner of Central and 29th St. in St. Petersburg -- Join us as we all go together and CASH MOB a local business -- Participants encouraged to each spend $10 at the business
Which shop are we CASH MOBBING? It's a secret! Meet us at the designated place and time, and you'll find out!
Update on the Jan. 14 Cash Mob The first Cash Mob, also
organized by LocalShops1.com and Awake Pinellas, brought about 20
shoppers to Haslam's Bookstore in St. Petersburg on Jan. 14.
"As an independent commercial building owner, it's important that locally owned, independent businesses become the center of commerce," says Walter Dill, owner of Freehold Partners, after attending the first Cash Mob.
Other Mobsters were equally excited about the movement.
"Local businesses are vital to our cities," said Chuck Zalac, who recently moved to St. Petersburg from Ohio. "I'd rather keep the profits and taxes here."
