St. Petersburg, April 2011 — LocalShops1.com will be honored at the 2011 Sustainable Florida Best Practice Awards, which will be presented June 2 in Daytona Beach as part of the Florida Green Building Coalition's Green Trends Conference.

The Best Practice Award recognizes businesses, organizations and individuals for their dynamic work in helping to create sustainable Florida.

"We're very excited about this honor because it shows that supporting local businesses is one of the key ingredients for a sustainable community," said Ester Venouziou, founder of LocalShops1.com. "Having an active shop-local movement is right up there with having a quality recycling program and clean air regulations. Local businesses are a vital part to building and maintaining an environmentally and economically sustainable region."

Sustainable Florida, a program run by the Collins Center for Public Policy, is an independent, non-profit and non-partisan alliance that serves as the primary statewide collaborator on sustainability issues. Its mission is to advance the vision of sustainability by identifying, supporting and communicating best management practices---those which protect and preserve Florida's environment for the future while building markets for Florida's businesses by enhancing their competitive advantages today.
