Coffee & tea shops, read up!

2009-09-19

Our environmentally-friendly friends Katia and Mary have a plan to encourage businesses to make their shops greener. They're sponsoring Tampa's very first Carrotmob. Here is how it works: Businesses place bids, committing a percentage of sales on 'mob' day to go toward improving insulation, installing energy-efficient lighting, etc. Store with highest bid wins. Meanwhile, they're gathering a group of people -- lots of students here, from USF and UT -- who pledge to shop at the winning store on mob day.

Bidding for the first Carrotmob is open only to coffee and tea shops in Hillsborough County, and bids are accepted through Oct. 3 ... so get going. It's free to place your bid, and it's an open process, so you can see what others are bidding -- and then go back and bid more. Remember, you are committing to percentage of sales only on mob day. And all the money goes toward making YOUR store more earth-friendly. That's a great offer, don't you think? If LocalShops1 Girl had a coffee shop in Tampa, she's go ahead and pledge 100 percent of the sales!

Here's where you can find more information ... and where you can start bidding! http://tampabay.carrotmob.org/bidding/

If you're in Pinellas, don't worry. They're planning another Carrotmob just for you. Sarasota/Manatee/Pasco/Hernando/Polk, you'll have to wait a little longer ... But if it's something you're interested in, let us know and we'll try to talk them into doing one in your county, too!
