St. Petersburg International Folk Fair Society, Inc. (SPIFFS) and its ethnic member groups present the 42nd Annual International Folk Fair Oct 27-30 at Vinoy Park in downtown St. Petersburg.
In addition to ethnic foods and cultural displays, Folk Fair offers dancing, singing and drumming by more than 30 ethnic groups.
The first two days are open only to students. General admission takes place the next two days, 10 am to 9 pm Saturday, Oct 29, and noon to 6 pm Sunday, Oct. 30.
The event features cooking demonstrations, Mongolian music, Polynesian dancers and folk music and dancing from around the world. the Grand Parade of Nations starts at 2 pm, when members of the many SPIFFS ethnic groups will parade around the park, led by colorful bands, pipers and drummers. The parade will be followed by a swearing-in ceremony of new citizens.
In addition to SPIFFS member groups, the entertainment schedule includes New Horizon Band, Urban Gypsies, The Islanders Greek Band, Brock McGuire Irish band and more. Folk dancing and music will be performed throughout the festival on two stages.
SPIFFS is Tampa Bay’s own United Nations and the only independent non-profit, multi-cultural folk fair organization in the country. Folk Fair is your chance to travel the world in a day - without leaving the country.
