The Morean Arts Center’s Great St. Pete Cupcake Contest returns noon to 3 pm Saturday, August 20, 2016, with almost 100 cupcake options! The contest this year takes place at the Morean Center for Clay, 420 22nd Street South in St. Petersburg's Warehouse Arts District. Admision and parking are free.
Cupcake bakers interested in competing may complete entry forms and liability waivers via the Morean Arts Center’s website, MoreanArtsCenter.org
Winners will be announced in People's Choice and Judges categories. In addition to bragging rights, the winners will receive a new trophy design, hand-made and intricately crafted cupcake plates created by clay artist Heather Tinnaro.
The People’s Choice award will be voted on by the attending audience. One dollar per vote will be collected to help support the Morean Arts Center’s mission of Connecting People with Art.
The judges will rate the cupcakes on icing/frosting, flavor/texture and presentation/creativity. They are:
- Dawna Stone, founder of the St. Pete Food & Wine Festival
- Erica Allums, owner of Banyan Café
- Mary Skinner, chef and Owner of Fine Dine Organic Cuisine
- Dexter Fabian, owner of I Love the Burg and local foodie
- Lisa Rau, ABC Producer of Morning Blend and local foodie
- Chef Ana Granucci, 400 Beach Seafood and Tap House
- Tina Contes, manager of Datz Dough Tampa
Representatives from Locale, Sea Salt and Ruth’s Chris, including Sea Salt’s Executive Chef Ken Tufo, will also be on duty, as the three restaurants are partnering to create a celebration for the Chihuly Grand Re-Opening in October.
Another new judge added to the roster is Executive Chef Matt Rainey from Rococo Steak, who is partnering with the Morean Arts Center’s fundraiser Eat Rich, Play Dirty later this year.
