Oct 8: Program Features History of Homophobic "Witch Hunts"

"Cold Warriors in the Hot Sunshine: The Johns Committee's Homophobic Witch Hunts" will be the inaugural program in the LGBTQ Brown Bag Series, sponsored by the LGBTQ Resource Center of the Gulfport Public Library. The event will take place noon to 1 pm Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015, at the library, 5501 28th Avenue SouthAttendees are invited to bring their own lunch to the program.  

The speaker, James Schnur, will discuss the topic in reference to the 1950s Communist scare and subsequent Florida Legislative investigations, known as the Johns Committee. Schnur holds adjunct teaching appointments at Eckerd College and the University of South Florida School of Information. He has also served as president of the Pinellas County Historical Society.
