Why Preservation Matters

Posted By LocalShops1, Tuesday, August 11, 2015

Donovan Rypkema, one of the country’s leading experts on historic preservation, will be the featured speaker at a St. Petersburg Preservation event  Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at the St. Petersburg Museum of History.

Rypkema’s discussion - “Why preservation is embraced by successful communities” – will outline his views on how preservation helps communities create jobs, revive downtowns, build tourism and attract new businesses.

Rypkema is the principal of PlaceEconomics, a Washington, D.C.-based real estate and economic development consulting firm that has been retained for over 25 years by public, private and non-profit clients to address issues of downtown and neighborhood revitalization, along with the reuse of historic buildings.

The event begins at 7pm and admission is free. The St. Petersburg Museum of History is at  335 Second Ave. NE.
