Indian Artist Choudhury to be Featured at The Gallery

Posted By LocalShops1, Wednesday, July 8, 2015

The Gallery in downtown St. Petersburg presents Retrospective 2015, an exhibit featuring the work of Dhiraj Choudhury. Meet the world-acclaimed artist during a reception 5-8 pm Saturday, July 18, 2015.

Choudhury, who was born in 1936 in undivided Bengal (now Bangladesh), started painting when he was a boy.  "I lived through the pain of the partition. I was moved by the world around me and took up painting. I was an aggressive painter throughout the 1970s and 1980s," he told the Times of India. Choudhury sees art as the battlefield of his struggle for freedom, and believes art has to be closely associated with life and humanity.

The Gallery is at 200 Central Avenue, Suite 111, inside One Progress Plaza. The entrance faces the corner of 1st Avenue South & 2nd Street South. For more information call (727) 324-6730 or visit
