Revitalization continues along St. Petersburg's historic 22nd Street S., aka "the Deuces," and this time it's with a new barbecue restaurant.
Deuces BBQ, at 911 22nd St. S., is a joint venture by local businessman Patrick "PT" Collins, 39, and Kevin Egulf, 40, head chef at Chief's Creole Café, next door to Deuces BBQ.
"We are really trying to reach out and embody the style of the neighborhood," Collins told the Tampa Bay Times recently. "That is why we chose the name Deuces. We really want to be part of the community."
Nearby businesses include LocalShops1 member Gallerie 909 (909 22nd St S), which features art by owner Carla Bristol and dozens of other African-American artists; and Sylvia's (642 22nd St S), an upscale restaurant that serves soul food and Southern dishes.
The made-from-scratch entrees range from $7 to $10, and include slow-cooked pork, Memphis-style "fall-off-the-bone" ribs and brisket. The restaurant is open every day from 11 am to 8 pm.
