Florida Wood Carver to Appear at Gulfport Gallery Event

Posted By LocalShops1, Thursday, May 28, 2015

Domain Home Accessories & Gallery in Gulfport will host a reception to feature Florida woodcarving artist Daniel “Abraham” Flores. This installment of Domain’s monthly “Meet the Artists” events will take place 6-10 pm Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 3129 Beach Boulevard South. The event features complimentary wine and appetizers and live music by jazz saxophonist Henry Ashwood.

Flores, a Florida native, lives in Panama City Beach and his work is featured has been featured at Domain since 2012.

"His fascination and love for the outdoors, where he encounters sun, sand, fish, birds and other creatures inspire much of the subject matter for his art," Domain publicist Daniel Hodge says. "The lore of the sea also inspires his works depicting whimsical mermaids.  Most of his pieces are carved and sculpted on recycled wood salvaged from construction sites, lumber yards and mills.  He also applies his signature carvings to vintage furniture.  After being carved, the pieces are painted, and then thickly layered with protective lacquered finishes.  His art works are often mistaken for polished ceramics due to their texture and sheen. Most wall-hung pieces are suitable for display in protected outdoor areas."
