Feb. 14: Mardi Gras in the EDGE

Posted By LocalShops1, Saturday, February 7, 2015

Mardi Gras in the EDGE, an all-day celebration Saturday, February 14, 2015, spans the entire EDGE District, which stretches Dr. MLK Jr. Street to 16th Street, and from 1st Avenue North to 1st Avenue South in St. Petersburg.

Businesses throughout the district are participating with special contests, door prizes, discounts, music and other activities. The celebration sports a "Purple Reigns" theme and participating EDGE businesses will be marked with festive purple balloons by their doors. One of the event highlights is the Mardi Gras parade, starting at 3 pm at Ricky P's and winding its way through the district. Former City Councilwoman Leslie Curran, president of the EDGE Business District Association, will preside as Queen of the festivities.

LocalShops1 members in the district are on board, of course!

Ashe Couture Boutique, which recently opened at 953 Central Ave., is featuring special guest jewelry designer Cadyn & Charlie Jewelry from 11 am to 3 pm and offering 20 percent off to customers who purchase when Ashe Couture apparel and Cadyn & Charlie Jewelry.

Nonprofit member Creative Clay Cultural Arts Center, at 1114 Central Ave, has its Art for Peace exhibit, from 10 am to 9 pm. In addition, the center is offering two workshops:

  • Make your own funky bead necklace (11 am-3 pm)
  • Make Your Own Folk Art Valentine with Missionary Mary Proctor (2-4 pm)

Top Local Chef vendor Brooklyn South, 1437 Central, is celebrating the day with gumbo, Valentine's cheese platters & chocolate covered strawberries, and complimentary French cheese samples.
