Entrepreneur Kate Tiedemann recently donated $10 million to the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, making it the largest single gift in the school's history. Tiedemann is founder and former CEO of Katena Products., an eye instruments company in New Jersey.
"Faculty and students are doing their part. This gift allows me to affirm and accelerate their good work," Tiedemann a Pinellas County resident, said in the statement. "I was fortunate enough to create a successful business in the U.S. and I feel strongly about creating a long-lasting legacy." Tiedemann moved to the U.S. from Germany in 1955 and never was able to complete high school or college.
"My highest level of education is grammar school, but I have spent my whole life learning and still continue to do that," she said. "Most of what I know I have learned from others."
The USFSP College of Business will be renamed the Kate Tiedemann College of Business, pending approval from the USF System Board of Trustees.
