Team Appointed to Help Choose Pier Design

Posted By LocalShops1, Saturday, August 9, 2014
St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman has appointed a seven-person team to help select the designer for a new or renovated pier.

The committee will rank the top three designs based on the city's criteria and public response, the Tampa Bay Times writes. Designs for the $46 million project are expected to feature amenities including observation areas, places to eat, fishing, and walking paths.

Michael Connors, St. Petersburg public works administrator
James Jackson Jr., architect for the city of Tampa
Bob Jeffrey, historic-preservation specialist and former assistant director of development services for the city of St. Petersburg
Melanie Lenz, vice president of development for the Tampa Bay Rays
Michael G. Meidel, director of Pinellas County Economic Development Department
Gary Mitchum, associate dean of the University of South Florida College of Marine Science and an expert on sea level rise
Kai Warren, preservation activist and former president of the Historic Roser Park neighborhood

The Pier was closed in May 2013, displacing dozens of local businesses.
