Congratulations to our friends at the Grand Central District in St. Petersburg on their recent honors by the Florida Main Street Program!
The district, a few blocks west of downtown St. Pete, was recognized in two categories:
Outstanding Retail Sales Promotion, for its first annual Battle of the Burg(er) contest
Outstanding New Construction, for development (by All Florida Management) of a net zero commercial building within the district
"The net zero building is a prime example of the innovation and creativity we embrace in the Grand Central District," says Lauren Ruiz, GCDA’s executive director/Main Street manager. "GCDA is grateful that our district was selected for the project, and we congratulate All Florida Management on their well-deserved award.”
Following is the news release with more details:
St. PETERSBURG, FL. (September 27, 2013) – The Florida Main Street program recognized the Grand Central
District twice during its recent annual awards dinner; Outstanding Retail Sales Promotion and Outstanding New
Construction. The Secretary of State's Florida Main Street Awards encourage and acknowledge Local Program
accomplishments that advance the goals of the Florida Main Street Program. This year’s ceremony, held during last
week’s Florida Main Street Annual Conference in Vilano Beach, included 9 Honor Awards and 10 Merit Awards, which were presented to recipients by Florida’s Secretary of State, Ken Detzner.
The Grand Central District Association’s 1st Annual ‘Battle of the Burg(er)’ contest, held last year, received the
Outstanding Retail Sales Promotion Honor Award, which identifies an innovative and effective retail sales promotion.
"It is exciting, while working on the Promotions Committee, when one of Committee’s marketing ideas is recognized on a state level,” notes Jim Longstreth, GCDA’s 2012 Promotions Chair, who was on hand to accept the award.
Adds Lauren Ruiz, GCDA’s Executive Director/Main Street Manager, "After the awards dinner, other Main Street Managers came up to ask me about the promotion. Jim developed a unique idea that not only intrigued other communities, but continued to grow locally when we ran the promotion again this August.”
For its development of the net zero commercial building located within the Grand Central District, All Florida
Management was the recipient of the Outstanding New Construction Project Merit Award, identifying new buildings or development projects notable for quality design and contribution to the surrounding physical environment. All Florida Management incorporates solar, construction, management, design, engineering, marketing and consulting that focus on net zero project developments. Managing Partner Tom Hall says "Our building represents St. Pete being the first designated Green City in Florida. Working in this direction has brought on new challenges as a developer, but the value of renewable energy and how it can be applied has been rewarding to our tenants, city, and environment.”
Lauren Ruiz notes, "The net zero building is a prime example of the innovation and creativity we embrace in the Grand Central District. GCDA is grateful that our District was selected for the project, and we congratulate All Florida Management on their well-deserved award.”
