We usually associate sunburn with summertime and beaches but anytime
you're outside and exposed to the sun, you can get a sunburn! Even
though summer officially ends in September, take care to protect your
skin against sunburn all year round.
If your skin feels like it's on fire, try this simple and quick recipe to ease sunburn pain and promote skin healing:
Add to 2 ounces of your favorite oil:
(I like almond oil but olive oil is fabulous for your skin as well) 8 drops Lavender Essential Oil6 drops Geranium Essential Oil
6 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
Mix and apply small dabs to sunburn areas giving your skin time to absorb.
Avoid eye area.
If you aren't familiar with essential oils, you should know:
Essential Oils are extracted from the leaves, stem and/or flowers of plants, they are highly concentrated.
Essential Oils should never be applied directly to your skin, always mix with a "carrier".
I prefer Sweet Almond Oil or Grapeseed Oil, they absorb quickly and won't feel greasy but a quality Olive Oil works well
and what most people have available to them in their house.
Citrus Essential Oils (like Orange, Lime and Grapefruit) can be "photosensitive".
Do not use these essential oils when you plan on being outside in the sun.
Essential Oils can relieve symptoms but should not be substituted for good health care.
Seek medical advice from a professional health care provider if you have questions or concerns.
