Krista Schmidt started making St PetersBARK! pet treats in 2014, in her home kitchen, and in early 2015 opened a full retail shop in the MLK business district in St. Petersburg. The shop includes the original treats, plus hand-selected natural dog and cat food, toys and accessories, and pet products from local vendors. Krista was inspired to open St PetersBARK after struggling with her own health issues and learning how changes in her diet affected her health. In the process of fixing her own health, she started seeing the impact died made on her dogs, too. "The store is the vehicle with which I am able to help people with their pets."
From their application for Best New Business:
"The last quarter of 2014 and January 2015 were some of the hardest, most stressful times of my life. It was endless hours of work including weekends and holidays. Through the stress and the work, I could see progress being made and light at the end of the tunnel. Then we opened our doors to a full front page feature in the business section of the Tampa Bay Times, a store full of customers, and incredible feedback from that initial group of customers. It was, and still is, an absolute dream."
St PetersBARK! is at 2435 MLK Jr. St. North, St Petersburg. They can be reached at 727-217-5366 or through their website, stpetersbark.com.
