Carla Bristol opened Gallerie 909 in April 2014 in St. Petersburg's historic 22nd St S corridor, known as The Deuces. The gallery features a new African-American or Caribbean artist every three to six weeks, offering several mediums including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photographs, custom jewelry and home furnishings.
From their application for Most Community-Minded Business:
"Bristol sits on the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American History Museum Board, Studio @ 620 board and the Pinellas County Historical Commission. ... Every first Friday the gallery invites young people to hang out at the gallery and meet artists, drum and perform. The goal is to expose young people to the arts and to make it a part of their experience while creating a diverse environment for both young and old of all races to interact. And it’s happening."
Gallerie 909 is at 909 22nd St S, St. Petersburg. Bristol can be reached at 727-565-3930 and gallerie909.com.
