Lasting power is what this one is all about. Despite the economic ups and downs, these are shops, restaurants and other businesses that have carried on and continue to make our neighborhoods happier and brighter!

Past winner: Write One Creative Services, Tampa

Please note that though past winners and LocalShops1 staff and advisory board members received many nominations, they are not eligible for the awards.

The winners will be announced Aug. 8 at the awards ceremony at the St. Petersburg Museum of History.

The finalists for Best Established Business are ...

Simply Caprine, Floral City: Toni & Lily Perez bring innovation and creativity with their line of goat milk products. They stay busy at their farm and showcasing their products at vendor events throughout Tampa Bay.  "Their ability to generate buzz online via social media as well as to grow through connections like The Artisan Group, which connects their products with celebrities, is impressive and inspirational," writes one fan.

Domain Home Accessories, Gulfport: The business, founded in 2001, is one of the most popular in downtown Gulfport. "Domain is known by hundreds as one of the best "go-to” places for a unique gift for any occasion," writes a friend. "Their spirit of creativity, friendly customer service, and involvement in the community is outstanding and deserves recognition."

Pipo’s The Original Cuban Cafe, St. Petersburg: Even in a down economy, Pipo's, established in 1979, has continued to grow, opening  new locations in Pinellas County -- and with plans for more under way. Pipo's maintains a presence in all the major festivals and fundraisers, often donating food and hosting the VIP tents. "Ramon (Hernandez) never says no," writes one business associate. That -- combined with the delicious food -- is their secret to success.

Grand Kitchen and Bath, St. Petersburg: The center, founded in 2004, offers the largest showroom of cabinetry, bath fixtures, decorative door hardware, and countertop selections in Pinellas County. "Richard and Julie run a professional, quality business," one customer writes. "Their showroom is stunning. I know where I'm going for my bath remodel."

Being, St. Petersburg: The shop features an amazing collection of furnishings, gifts, rugs, textiles and accessories. Being started out at Baywalk and later expanded to a larger location on Fourth St. N.and offers a full-service designer on staff.  "One of my favorite places!" says one shopper.

Island Flavors And Tings, Gulfport: Helena Josephs opened her Jamaican restaurant in 1995, and has been a fixture in the local dining scene ever since. Helena has been recognized with dozens of awards for her food and contribution to local organizations. "Helena is so giving," one diner writes. "She deserves to win!"
