First things first. Everyone knows I'm the best chef around. How do I get in??

We are sorry, but you missed the deadline for the 2015 competition! To be placed on our email list for future opportunities, please email  Who made it? Finalists will be announced Monday, March 9, and must be available to participate in a video interview, or send someone to represent him/her. 10 am to noon Monday, March 23.

I'm not a chef, but would like to be involved.
Great! We have limited vendor spots and sponsorship opportunities.  Email us at for information.

I made it as a competing chef! What happens next?

If selected to participate, you will be invited to meet with the LocalShops1 staff and the Saucy Queen, aka Michele Northrup of Intensity Academy, for a video interview 9-11 am March 23 at the Gulfport Casino & Ballroom. Practice your Saucy Smack Talk! We want to know why you'll be the next Top Local Chef!

The competing chef or a representative from his or her restaurant must be available for the video interview March 23.

Immediately following your interview you will receive your free gallon of the not-so-secret ingredient to use in your dish. You will have a full month to experiment and create the winning dish.

On competition day, April 26, you must arrive at 3 pm and be set up and ready to go by 4:30 pm. Each chef must bring 200 samples for guests and plated dishes for the judges. You must  provide your own serving containers and utensils for the guests. Doors open to the public at 5 pm.

Who are the judges?
Judges include print and TV journalists, top food writers, and a past two-time Top Local Chef winner. You can read more about the judges in our Meet the Judges page.
What is the cost to participate?
Chefs do not pay to compete in the event.

Paid opportunities are available for vendors and sponsors.

Who supplies the ingredients for the dish?
Intensity Academy provides one gallon of Must Thai for free. Additional sauce, if needed, will be available directly from Intensity Academy at wholesale price. The chefs are responsible for other ingredients.

Who supplies the serving containers and utensils? Do you have warming dishes? Tables?
Chefs are responsible for all containers/utensils/warming dishes/etc.  We provide two 8-foot tables and two chairs. Feel free to bring your custom tablecloths or other branded materials for your table.

Can I bring my entourage?
Of course! You may purchase 10-packs of general admission tickets at a discounted rate, and give or sell to family, friends and favorite customers. Please email us at for details.

Are the dishes made in the chef's kitchen and then transported to the site?
Yes. There will be no cooking on site.

How does the judging work?
There will be a winner each in Popular Choice and Judges' Vote.
For the judges' portion, each chef will present their plate to the judges on stage, and will have opportunity to describe the dish and get input from the judges. Judges will rank each dish on taste, presentation, creativity, and best use of the not-so-secret ingredient. The popular vote will be decided by the VIP guests.
What size plate is used?
That's up to each chef, but the general guideline is that if you had the item on your appetizers or tapas menu, you would feel comfortable listing it for $5 or more.
Can I bring menus and business cards?
Of course! We want you to get a ton of exposure here. Feel free to bring promotional materials to hand out from your booth and/or to leave at the guests' tables. You may also bring stand-up banners, if you have any. There is no space, however, to hang a banner. If you need printed materials, we offer special discounts for participating chefs through I Print Local. Please email us at for a custom order.
What else do I get?
Competing chefs will have the opportunity to meet some of the most prominent food bloggers, local media and the area's foodies. So be ready to impress! This is an excellent opportunity for not-yet-known chefs to get discovered and for the already-established ones to further reinforce their reputation as one of the best.

Every participating chef will be heavily featured in Top Local Chef advertising and promotions, including through LocalShops1's website, social media pages, and e-newsletters, which reach tens of thousands of local residents. After the competition, each chef will get an additional gallon of Must Thai, so they can offer the dish at their restaurant (or next catering job), and we will of course spread the news!

In addition, the winner of the Judges Vote will get the coveted Giant Spoon. Both winners (judges and popular votes) will receive a deluxe membership in LocalShops1.

Anything else I should know?
Top Local Chef is a production of LocalShops1 and Intensity Academy Gourmet Sauces, with the collaboration of our nonprofit partner the Gulfport Historical Society. Please email us at if you would like to be involved.
