2013 Top Local Chef Contenders!

The competition was fierce, but we have painstakingly selected the seven chefs who will have the chance to compete April 28 for the coveted Top Local Chef title!! There will be one winner each in the Popular Vote and Judges Choice.

Event registration is now under way. The event is open to the public. Tickets are required for tastings.

The ones to watch:

Island Flavors And Tings, Gulfport

Chef Helena Josephs: Chef Helena is withholding any smack talk for now, but she does say she has no doubt she will be the 2013 winner.

Sab Cafe, St. Petersburg
The downtown restaurant serves Thai and Vietnamese Cuisine. "We prepare the freshest dishes with the most authentic ingredients," they say.

Meze 119, St. Petersburg

Chef Katherine J. Gorr:  I  have taken the time to master the use of many exotic spices unique to North Africa, India, Thailand, Mexico, and the Middle East. I am thrilled to be competing on behalf of MEZE.

Pipo’s, St. Petersburg

Chef Ramon Hernandez: There is nobody more prepared to win a Top Chef contest that the hottest, sauciest and most delicous concoctor of culinary delight than me, Ramon Hernandez. You have not seen hot until you see me cook! They could not keep up with me eating the lollypops from Intensity Academy. How can they even think the can keep up with me cooking with their hot sauce? Please!

Rain Japanese Sushi Bar and Thai, St. Petersburg

Bobby Inthavong: I am ready to blow the competition out of the water with my creativity and passion for food.

The Taste Junction, St. Petersburg

Chef Antwan Coleman: Last year I came up within a inch of winning. If given the second chance to enter, I promise to win not by a inch, but with a mile. ... I’m the evil food master that breaks other chefs’  hopes and dreams when it comes to a competition.
