LocalShops1, in collaboration with the Gulfport Area Chamber of Commerce, is hosting the local round of the SBA InnovateHER Challenge, in which they look for products or services that make a positive impact on the lives of women and families. The competition takes place Dec. 2, 2015, at the Catherine Hickman in Gulfport, and the winner of this local round may be selected to compete for cash prizes totaling $70,000 in the finals in Washington, DC.

On the Judges Panel
Diana M. Hechavarria is an assistant professor in the Center for Entrepreneurship at the University South Florida. She has been nationally recognized by the United States Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship and awarded a 3E Learning Award for her advancement of experiential teaching in the field of entrepreneurship.
Diana’s research has been featured in various conferences and symposiums (including the Academy of Management, the International Council for Small Business and the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship) and her research has been published in journals including Small Business Economics, Journal of Business and Entrepreneurship, and International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal.
Her research focuses on the dynamics of launching a new firm, including the entrepreneurship gestation window and timing of start-up outcomes, as well as identifying differences among social, environmental and economic start-ups.
Diana has a PhD in management from University of Cincinnati, master's in liberal studies from Florida International University and bachelor's in sociology from University of Florida.
