Not all coffee shops are created equal. For some coffee lovers, grabbing a must-have cup means a visit to their favorite brand name store. You order your usual drink on your drive to work, a visit with friends, or as a sidekick to your laptop. While big-name franchises may be the most well-known, recognition doesn’t always translate to the best.
Before you head out for your next caffeinated treat, check out one of the great coffee shops in Tampa Bay. You may be surprised to learn some are already on your daily trek to work. All create their special blend of roasted goodness, customer service, and ambiance.
Enjoy these shops for a delicious coffee, latte, espresso, or cappuccino.
Kahwa Coffee: This local shop is expanding and currently boasts five stores in the area. The owners are serious about roasting. Their blends are from 100 percent Arabica beans, found worldwide, and then roasted and blended locally.
They offer some decadent blends, including Mistral, a bold espresso blend reminiscent of Italian espresso classics. Their drip coffee blend, Sirocco, is perfect for those who want a medium roast with a surprise taste of dark cherry and honey. They also rotate single origin coffees, such as Organic Colombian, Fair Trade Rwanda, and Organic Bali Blue Moon, which gives you a change to your weekly favorites.

Central Perks: Located in downtown St. Petersburg, this shop is perfect for those visiting and working during the weekdays. They’re open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
They offer a variety of caffeinated drink specials, including their own blend, lattes, flavored cappuccinos, espresso, and spiced hot chocolate. Their iced coffees are a special treat in the hot Florida weather. You can also try an added flavor of raspberry, vanilla, caramel, hazelnut, or mocha. For extra goodness, try a Twisted Coffee: iced coffee blended with flavored syrup and cream with added whipped cream on top.
They also offer a breakfast and lunch menu, including salads, sandwiches, soups, baked goods including award-winning pies, domestic and imported beer, and wine.
Brew D'Licious (Purveyors of No Name Java): Another downtown St. Pete shop offers a variety of delicious brews for dedicated coffee lovers. They select the best quality Arabica beans for local roasting. You can enjoy your favorite specialty coffees, or try one of their gourmet blends and flavored coffees. “No Name Java” refers to their wide variety of coffees without the brand names or frilly packaging.
For home and micro brewers, you’ll be happy to see they offer an unroasted green coffee bean for home use. In addition to supplying local customers, their coffee bean roasted blends are offered at gourmet shops and specialty retailers.
