Smokin J's Real Texas BBQ
Finalist, Most Community-Minded Business

5145 Gulfport Blv., Gulfport
(727) 329-8624

Smokin’ J’s  is a family-owned and operated restaurant that started in Dallas, Texas, in early 2009. After John Riesebeck and his family visited Florida to help a family member, they decided to move to South Pasadena and bring their BBQ with them. "We started as a roadside vendor for seven months before finding a location in Gulfport," John writes. "After remodeling a vacant house into a restaurant in 2010 we moved from the roadside vendor to a brick and mortar building which is our present location.:

Here are excerpts from his application for LocalShops1's 2014 Best in Biz Awards:

"After a neighboring business had a parking lot washout during a storm, Smokin’ J’s split the cost of
materials and provided all equipment and labor to rebuild his parking lot. After a waterspout hit a local restaurant, we were there to help in the cleanup efforts and fed the volunteers. A year later we will be there for the grand reopening and to support their business."

"We believe a business must be involved in its community, after all your community is what will be supporting you. We believe in volume over large profits. While profits are great we feel giving more back to the community by offering everyone affordable dining out choices goes much further. If you help support your community your community will support you."
