Shubee Shack
Finalist, Best at Grassroots Marketing

91 171st Ave N., Redington Beach

Pat Bearry fell in love with the area when his son was being recruited by USF to play football. He moved from Baltimore, Md., and worked as a deputy sheriff in Manatee County. After  a year he shifted gears and decided to do what he loved best: cook. He opened Shubee Shack in 2009.

Here are excerpts from his application for LocalShops1's 2014 Best in Biz Awards:

"Shubee  stands for a person who talks acts and dresses like a surfer, buts never has been on a surf board! If you know me and seen me that holds true! The Shubee Shack is very small place but with very BIG TASTES! It’s a one person operation open 7 days a weeks for lunch and early dinner.  My motto always fresh all the time!"

"I had no funds to market the  Shubee Shack; only an idea that if I produced a great product the word of mouth of the locals would do it for me! And it paid of. ...  Locals and tourists have introduced the Shubee Shack to the world! Rated 5 starts and 4 ½ in some cases has helped me retain steady business and new customers each and every year!!"
