Entrepreneurial Couples: Robin & Jack King

Posted By LocalShops1, Tuesday, February 11, 2014

Robin and Jack King opened their current business, Three Birds Tavern in St. Petersburg, June 2009. But their days working together date back to 2000, when Robin came on board Jack's law firm to help with what was supposed to be just a temporary project. That led to more and more projects, and the couple has been working together ever since.

How do you keep from killing each other?

First, duties and responsibilities have to be clearly defined - who's responsible for what, Robin explains. Second, patience and respect, and then more patience and respect.  And finally, as Jack reminds me often, someone has to be the boss. Someone has to have the final vote.  The buck stops with Jack, and I'm okay with that. We discuss all decisions, and usually agree on them, but when there's a tough decision to be made, or we don't agree, the final decision is his.

The best thing about working together?

We complement one another. We're both better when we work together. And, obviously, we like spending time together, and our situation allows us to spend all of our time together.

Three Birds Tavern is at 1492 Fourth St. N. in St. Petersburg. Robin and Jack can be reached at 727.895.2049.
