Scott and Heidi Shimberg know a LOT about running a business as a couple. Not only do they have their own joint business, but that busines is CoupleCEO, which helps entrepreneurial couples to live a life that is complete with a business full of profit and a relationship full of passion. Their book, From the Bedroom to the Boardroom and Back, will be available this spring.
The Shimbergs have worked together for the past 20 years, building and selling more than a quarter of a billion dollars of real estate in the Tampa Bay area. Recently they ventured into yet another business together: helping other couples succeed.
"People have often asked us how we do it, so we decided if we could research what works for other successful couples and combine that with what works for us and share it with others, the formula would be the foundation for our new enterprise," Heidi says.
How do you keep from killing each other?
There is not one secret to "not killing each other." The main overlying principle is to respect one another and to not take the other for granted. It is also very important to understand one another's personality types and to speak and react to the other with that in mind. Also critical to always keep in mind: you are always are a couple first, your relationship should always be paramount over the business.
What's the best part of working together?
The best part is the shared joy in the creation and successes of building a business together. Another bonus is that you can kiss your business partner and express PDAs in the middle of the day.
