Making Tampa Bay a Better Place

Posted By Administration, Wednesday, April 25, 2012

One of the (many, many) reasons we love local businesses so much is because these are the places that keep our communities going.

Local  businesses are the ones we turn to in time of need.

High school band needs to raise money? Local shops give them gift cards and other goodies to raffle off. Co-workers need to raise money for a friend in need? Local coffee shops give them the venue and the food to host a fundraiser.

And when it comes time to raise a ton of money, even national organizations turn to the local restaurants. That's the case with Dining Out for Life, an annual dining fundraising event to raise money for AIDS service groups. The premise is simple: Diners eat, restaurants donate a big chunk of the cost of the meal -- typically 25 percent! -- to help fight HIV/AIDS.

Last year, 3,001 restaurants in 52 cities helped raise $3.4 million. The event has been taking place every year since 1991.

This year, close to 50 restaurants in the Tampa Bay region are participating in Dining Out for Life. Among them, these awesome LocalShops1 members:
