When you meet Billie Jo Grassinger-Bell, the first thing you'll notice will probably be her laugh. It's boisterous and spontaneous, heartfelt and contagious. It's one of the best laughs around.
Next thing you'll notice about Billie Jo is that her laugh is the perfect complement to her personality: fun, genuine, caring.
And that explains why Billie Jo, 42, started her company, Tampa Bay Natural Health: She wanted to help people live better lives. And that caring passion continues today. We asked her what she'd do if we gave her $5,000 Her response: Buy products to give to people who need it most.
In addition to running her own business, she helps Rob, her husband of four months, with the marketing of his, Bell Contracting and Design, a full-service commercial and residential contracting company; and spends time with his two children, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren! The couple lives in Seminole.
When & how did you start your business?
I do not like taking medications. I see so
many side effects to prescription drugs and it really scares me. My aunt
had very high cholesterol many years ago and I found a company with
a natural solution. I checked into the company (which at the time was
Rexall International) and they had an amazing product called BiosLife
that reduced LDL cholesterol, increased HDL and lowered the total
cholesterol. I found a local distributor and 18 years ago I joined
Rexall Showcase International.
Since then, the company has merged with
another company and is now called Unicity International. At the time,
the company had about 10 products and now we have over 200 products, 11
of them are listed in the Physician's Desk Reference.
I think if there
are natural solutions that do not have horrible side
effects, they need to be shared with everyone - and that is what I am
here to do! I love helping people make life better!
When and what was your last corporate job? I managed the reservations department at the Holiday Inn Surfside for four years back in the '90s. Those were the days!
Your proudest achievements, one each for personal and business:
Personal: Graduating from St. Petersburg College as the "Most Outstanding Student of the Year."
Business: In 2004, when I was a sales rep
for the an adult home party company. I was awarded with Top Sales for
the Year as well as Top Recruiter for the Year.
If someone gave you $5,000 to spend on your business, how would you spend it? I
would purchase $4,000 worth of product and use it to give to people
with high cholesterol and heart disease to show them that preventative
medicine without side effects is so much better than prescription
medication with horrible side effects. The other $1,000 would be spent
promoting the free supplies. I truly want to help people and show them
that there is an
Anything else you want the world to know about you? I am an open book.
